With school being out for summer break, children have more time on their hands and parents may need to think of a new way to keep them busy and entertained. Visiting the local library is a great way to get up and get moving! Each branch of the Coffey County Library System (Burlington, Gridley, Lebo, LeRoy, New Strawn, and Waverly) offers an incentivized Summer Reading Program to youth and adults of all ages as an exciting and fun way to encourage literacy.
The annual Summer Reading Program is a staple to any library’s list of events. This year’s Summer Reading Program Theme is “Oceans of Possibilities.” Patrons will find that each branch has “fin-tastic” activities planned for the summer that range from daily crafts to outdoor movie nights. Although each of the Coffey County Libraries have their own programs, they all have a common goal: to motivate individuals to read.
Just because school is out for summer doesn’t mean that parents need to put a halt to their children’s learning and development. It is important to take advantage of this critical period of time in order to improve reading skills. Children who continue reading and learning through the Summer Reading Program will be more likely to improve their reading skills and instill in themselves a heightened sense of motivation and confidence. An exciting bonus: patrons who take part in the Summer Reading Program will also win prizes as they reach their different reading milestones.
