3D Printing Information
Coffey County Library provides access to 3D Printers for in library use by patron use. The library’s 3D printers are available to the public for educational purposes to make three-dimensional objects in plastic using a design that is uploaded from a digital computer file. The library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request.
Use of the 3D printers is subject to these additional responsibilities, restrictions, and costs:
Patron Responsibility:
Patrons may only use the printer alongside designated library staff unless trained by staff. Patrons must pick up their items within 24 hours. Any items not picked up will become property of the library. Patrons will only use the filament provided by the library.
Staff Responsibility:
Supervision of the use of the 3D printer by the library staff does not constitute knowledge, or acknowledgement, of any unapparent final use of the 3D product, and the library specifically disclaims any knowledge thereof.
3D Printers may be reserved in advance by contacting the appropriate branch. Each branch has the authority to establish time periods for use.
The staff will be glad to assist as time allows, but the needs of users in many contexts must be balanced. Because of scheduling and location of 3D printers, trained staff may not be available at all times. If this is the case, the patron can schedule a time when staff is available.
Limitation of Use:
The library’s 3D printers may be used for lawful purposes only. Patrons will not be permitted to use the library’s 3D printers to create material that is:
- Prohibited by local, state or federal law.
- Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others. (Such use may violate the terms of use of the manufacturer.)
- Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment.
- In violation of another’s intellectual property rights including material subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection.
Cost:
3D printed objects will be charged at $1.00/hr running time. $1.00 minimum. No charge for a failed print.
