Food for Lost Fines

The Coffey County Library Board of Trustees and Staff are excited to announce the Food for Lost Items Program.

All Coffey County Libraries will accept canned and boxed food donations beginning April 1 and continue through the month of April. For every non-perishable item donated, $1 worth of lost books costs will be waived from a patron’s account.  There is no limit to the amount of credit up to the total amount owed that can be issued but patrons already referred to collection services are ineligible for the program.

According to library policy, patrons with fines for lost items are restricted from checking out more library items. By offering this program in April, Coffey County Libraries wishes to give patrons the opportunity to eliminate fines and be able to participate in the incredible summer reading programs offered at each of the six branches. Summer months are also traditionally a time when food pantries see reduced donations and increased needs.

For those who do not owe money but would like to help, the library will gladly accept additional donations for area food pantries. Visit your local branch in Gridley, New Strawn, LeRoy, Waverly, Lebo, or Burlington for more information or to drop off food.
