Book Review – Daughter of the Forest

Daughter of the Forest CoverDaughter of the Forest is an epic fantasy novel based on the tale of the seven swans.  Sorcha, the youngest daughter of the Irish Lord Colum, must save her six older brothers from a terrible enchantment.  She suffers cruelly in the attempt and journeys far from her native land.  This story features a strong female protagonist and is steeped in Celtic mythology. Juliet Marrillier’s haunting, lyrical prose brings the forests of 10th century Ireland to life. I honestly could not put this book down until I reached the ending, so enthralled was I with Sorcha’s struggle.  A great read for those who enjoy historical fantasy, and the first book in a continuing series.
